DTCC went live with its Tokenization Service on Canton Network on October 28 with 20 firms. Canton Strategic Holdings (CNTN) plans tokenized shares as early as November 2.

The Depository Trust & Clearing Corporation (DTCC) has launched its tokenization service on the Canton Network, giving @CantonNetwork a live institutional use case. Separately, Nasdaq-listed Canton Strategic Holdings ($CNTN) plans to put tokenized versions of its own shares on the network as early as November 2.

DTCC Tokenization Service Goes Live on Canton

DTCC, which sits at the heart of U.S. securities markets, went live with its tokenization service on Wednesday, taking a step toward bringing stocks, bonds and funds onto blockchain infrastructure. The service is available on the Canton Network and DTCC's private Besu blockchain, initially supporting select large-cap stocks from the Russell 1000 index, exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and U.S. Treasuries.

The service went live on October 28, 2026, with 20 participating firms signed up and 34 securities eligible for tokenization. CoinDesk reported that JPMorgan, Citi and Morgan Stanley are among the 20 firms signed up. A DTCC spokesperson told CoinDesk that the 34 eligible securities represent approximately $30 trillion in market value.

The structure is designed to keep existing legal protections in place. The service keeps official ownership records with DTC even as tokens move between registered wallets, and the tokens represent securities already held in custody, preserving their existing rights. It builds on a December no-action letter from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission, which allowed DTCC to tokenize a defined set of securities.

Canton is the only public network in the initial rollout. It is one of two blockchains live at launch, and the only public one, with tokens issued under Canton's CIP-56 token standard. Stellar and Circle's Arc are anticipated in 2027.

Analysts have urged caution on what this means for the network's native token. One market report noted that the Canton Network's official announcement does not say that CC is a mandatory settlement asset for every transaction on the service.

Canton Strategic Holdings Targets Tokenized Share Trading

Canton Strategic Holdings (NASDAQ: CNTN) plans to let its common shares trade in tokenized form on the Canton Network as early as Nov. 2, calling it the first listing of its kind under the SEC's new innovation exemption. The date is a target and depends on certain conditions being met.

Fairmint, as an onchain transfer agent, will issue the tokenized shares, maintain the official onchain record of ownership and administer compliance on every transfer. Holders would receive the same rights and privileges as those holding the stock via Nasdaq. TSV LLC intends to bring the tokenized shares into its automated market maker, allowing 24/7 trading, atomic settlement and verified access for institutional and retail investors. TSV described itself as the first tokenized securities venue to complete the notification process under the exemption, which the SEC issued Sept. 17.

The listing could also carry competitive weight. CoinDesk reported that a venue on Canton could beat the joint venture between OKX and NYSE parent Intercontinental Exchange to the first trades under the SEC's new tokenization framework.

The company has a direct stake in the network. It holds Canton Coin, operates as a Super Validator on the network and is a member of the Canton Foundation. In its second-quarter results, it recorded its first operating revenue from its Super Validator operations and its locking-as-a-service offering.

Whether activity on the DTCC service and the tokenized CNTN listing grows beyond launch will be the next test for Canton's institutional push.
