Polygon Lifetime Transactions Reach About 8.3 Billion, Matching World Population, Chainspect Data Shows

Polygon has recorded roughly 8.3 billion lifetime transactions per Chainspect, close to the UN estimate of world population. Here is what the milestone means for $POL and Ethereum scaling.

Polygon has recorded more than 8.3 billion lifetime transactions, according to blockchain analytics platform Chainspect. The figure is roughly level with the number of people on Earth, which the United Nations estimates at about 8.3 billion in 2026.

@0xPolygon, the team behind the network, has become one of the most heavily used scaling networks for $ETH. The milestone points to sustained activity rather than a short-lived burst of interest.

What the Transaction Count Shows

The number is cumulative. It covers all transactions since the network launched in 2020 and is not a daily or monthly measure. Earlier reporting put the total at 8,200,006,683 transactions about three weeks ago, which suggests the count has continued to climb steadily.

Polygon's block explorer shows a similar picture for the PoS chain. PolygonScan's chart page lists about 8.14 billion total transactions at an average fee of roughly 0.02 USD, with more than 79 million contracts deployed. Small differences between data providers are common, because each tracks and counts activity in its own way.

Polygon announced the 8 billion mark earlier this year. According to Tron Weekly, the network recorded 743 million transactions in the second quarter of 2026 and led all chains in May with $79.25 billion in stablecoin volume. The report also cited integrations with Visa, Meta and Revolut, although readers should treat those partnership details as the outlet's account.

How the Figure Compares With Global Population

The comparison with world population is a useful reference point, but it needs context. Worldometer, using UN estimates, puts the global population at about 8.32 billion as of October 2026. Polygon's transaction count is therefore close to that figure rather than far above it.

The comparison also does not mean each person has made a transaction. A single user or smart contract can generate thousands of transactions, and many are automated. The count is better read as a measure of network throughput than of unique users.

Activity has not translated into price strength. A press release published via openPR, citing Traders Union, said $POL traded about 44% below its level three months earlier. That is a paid promotional piece and should be read with caution, but it reflects a wider pattern in which usage and token price often move separately.

Chainspect data also shows that Polygon trails other networks on raw volume. Its comparison page lists Polygon with about 7.88 billion total transactions against 121 billion for Solana, though the figures on that page appear to reflect a different snapshot date.
